Derby Football Hub
Caxton Builders has secured a new project bringing a state-of-the-art provision to Derby Racecourse – the Derby Football Hub. The project which is part of a national hubs programme is led by the Premier League, The FA and the Government’s Football Foundation.
Working with main contractor Universal Group, Caxton Builders will begin work at St Marks Road, Derby in July 2023 for a ten-week period. The project has a value of £110K (labour only).
General Works
The development involves groundworks to extend both the building to the front and to nearly double the car park to create a new community hub benefiting the expansion of new all-weather pitches. It will involve creating new foundations for both elements, a structural steel skeleton with low level brickwork façade and upper cladding.
Sustainable grassroots football
The £11.9m project will bring additional full-sized 3G artificial grass pitches, extension to the current racecourse building, a large reception area, café, community/education room and improved access to parking. The project is designed to offer an alternative and sustainable solution to the long-term future for grassroots football.
Derby City Council Funding
The project has received joint funding from Derby City Council and the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation. Following completion, the facilities will be managed on behalf of Derby City Council by the National Football Trust and operated by Leisure United.
A spokesperson for Derby City Council said, “We’re thrilled to see the kick-off of this project that will provide an excellent grassroots football facility, with improved access and an engaging community hub for the local residents to enjoy. We are delighted to be part of this partnership that has supported funding for this project and enabling the development of a facility that will support health and wellbeing for the city”.
