Alister Corbett

In our first apprentice Team Insights piece, we hear from Alister Corbett who tells us why he wanted to work for Caxton Group and what have been his highlights so far.

1. What did you want to do after school?

I wanted to find a job in a worthwhile trade and I felt bricklaying was the one for me.

2. Why did you choose Caxton Group?

When searching for an apprenticeship I came across Caxton Group and looked on their website. I saw they did high class building I thought they would be good to work for. They had apprenticeships that looked good.

3. How long have you been with Caxton Group?

I have been with Caxton two years 10 months and really enjoy working here. I have just sat my EPA and waiting for my results.

4. What sites/type of work have you experienced so far?

I have been on various sites, Plot 7, Blythe Valley, and currently I am based at Hockley Mills in Birmingham. I have worked with white mortar, built stack bond soldiers and Arches.

5. What is best part of your job and working for Caxton Group?

I enjoy working with different people on the different sites. The variety of buildings Caxton work on helps with my learning.

 6. What are your hobbies, or leisure activities.

Mainly riding motorbikes, trials, and motorcross.

7. What is the best advice you have been given?

Put yourself in situations you don’t feel comfortable in. Being out of my comfort zone helped me to build my confidence and experience.

8. What are your future plans?

Continue working for Caxton and become the best bricklayer I can. Then hopefully set up my own company.

9. What has been the highlight so far?

I really enjoyed college (Salutem) as they are a small training company. They really helped me and had time to teach me”.
