Tom P

Caxton Façades Project Manager

When did you join the business?

May 2022.

Tell us about your role within the business?

I’m project-based day to day with some office-based working as required. My role is primarily to manage and lead the Caxton Façades project teams on two of our flagship contracts within the West Midlands for our client. I’ve been involved in setting up our procedures for Health and safety, quality assurance and communications at project level. I oversee our site teams based on these projects and make sure they have the right skills, training and guidance to make our work successful. I evaluate with the site team our materials, resources and site issues to report on any potential programme blockers and report these on a weekly basis.

I feedback on any project successes and importantly any issues that come to light, my role is to tackle these with the required people depending on what’s required, most often I’ll be communicating with our internal teams, external suppliers, design teams and generally the clients project team.  I am just one of the people within the business who are assisting our new site management team develop and improve our service whether that be in procedures or communicating effectively to our operatives on site and to our clients.

How many people / departments do you manage?

Team of site-based management personnel from site managers to supervisors.

Where are you based?

Birmingham-based projects.

How would you describe the culture within the business?

The people within the business have a good variety of skills and experience, they have a positive ‘can do’, team driven culture. This is underpinned by an appreciation of what challenges there are at all levels and a message that everyone can contribute to the success of the business by working together, being supportive of colleagues and working hard.

What would you say at the main advantages to working for Caxton Group?

Caxton Façades is growing fast and there is opportunity with facades and the wider group for career development. Since I joined Caxton the people within the business have been friendly, approachable and genuine which makes work a positive experience and a good laugh when the time is right.

The hours of work are not unreasonable for a construction business and the senior team are understanding of life outside of work. That level of flexibility and appreciation is good for a healthy work/life balance. Ultimately you are also rewarded financially for hard work.

How would you describe the career progression / opportunities within the business?

With the continued growth that the business is undergoing there is an opportunity for new starters and existing people within Caxton to progress. There are people within the business who are now business leaders who I knew years ago who have worked their way to these trusted positions and deservedly so. Again, if you work hard and show your capability then Caxton will support your development.

How would you describe the training and development at Caxton Group?

If you speak to your line manager and if it’s beneficial to your personal development and supporting the business then it will happen, this has been my experience so far. I think the business is focused on developing people because we want the most highly trained and functioning team, not just basic compliance, which is great!

How would you describe the benefits to working at Caxton Group?

The hours are very reasonable and allow me to get home at a sensible hour to spend quality time with my family and friends. Hard work and willingness are rewarded with a salary/performance-based bonus. There are good holidays which has recently been increased by three days to our basic entitlement which usually is reserved for the Christmas break.

What would you say to someone who is thinking of working for Caxton Group?

Get in touch with us, we want keen individuals who want to develop and enjoy work. Caxton Group is a business that supports those who are on that journey.
