Caxton Builders: Edward Street Hospital
Caxton Builders Supports Community & Skills Development For NHS Foundation Trust

Caxton Builders played a key role in the Edward Street Hospital refurbishment for Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, delivering traditional brick and block cavity wall construction. This project is part of a national programme to eliminate dormitory wards and improve mental health facilities in Sandwell.

Close collaboration
As an early contractor, Caxton Builders collaborated closely with main contractor -Integrated Health Projects (IHP) – Vinci Building UK, to value-engineer and program the masonry works six months before site activities began, laying the foundation for seamless execution.

Excellence in Masonry Delivery
Caxton Builders efficiently installed traditional cavity wall systems, working under the IHP programme. Our proactive approach, combined with early engagement, ensured timely and high-quality delivery. Andy Townshend, Construction Director at Caxton Builders, commented, “Our team is committed to more than just delivering exceptional masonry – we’re utilising future talent and uplifting our communities. By partnering with IHP and NHS Trust, we’re driving both quality construction and social value.”

Skills development & Community Impact
IHP established a work‑experience programme aimed at local residents, providing hands‑on construction experience and inspiring future careers. Valuable opportunities were extended to individuals from the Black Country, promoting community engagement and skills development. The project significantly supported Black Country Healthcare’s mission to bring meaningful work experience to young people in the local area.
