Caxton Builders helps transform community centre in Dudley

Caxton Builders and Caxton Academy recently took part in a community improvement project in Dudley, helping to restore and enhance a local community centre following an incident of vandalism.
Working with valued client, VINCI Building, with materials generously provided by our supply chain partner, IG Masonry Support, the team carried out a range of masonry works to help improve the outdoor space and repair damaged areas of the grounds.
The project included the construction of three new brick planters, alongside repairs to existing masonry and re-pointing works. Once complete, the improvements will help create a more welcoming environment for the local residents and community groups who use the centre.

A key part of the project was the involvement of Caxton Academy’s apprentices, who worked on site under the guidance of experienced colleagues. The initiative provided valuable hands-on experience while giving apprentices the opportunity to contribute to a project with a lasting impact on the local community.
The project is a great example of what can be achieved when organisations across the construction industry come together to support local communities. By combining skills, materials and time, the teams were able to make a meaningful difference to an important local facility.
Caxton Academy apprentices constructed three brick and blockwork planters, providing valuable hands-on experience in a live environment outside of a construction site. The apprentices completed the footings, built the blockwork foundations and brickwork to match the surrounding area, while also helping to paint the planters and rake out and repoint the community centre’s rear staircase walls. The project was completed by Connor Mason, Brandon Bates, Joe Sweeney, Kian Hannah, Lewis Hall, Tusar Sondagar and Mohammed Khan.

“We’re always proud to support projects that make a positive difference in local communities. It was fantastic to work alongside VINCI Building and IG Masonry Support on this initiative and see our apprentices playing such an active role. The finished planters and repair works will leave a lasting legacy for the community centre and the people who use it.” Ivan Sharpe, Development Manager
“It was great to be involved in a project that gives something back to the local community. Working on the planters and repair works helped me develop my practical skills and learn from experienced members of the team. Seeing the finished result and knowing it will be used by local residents makes it even more rewarding.” James Hanson, Caxton Academy Apprentice
