New Contract Award: Denise Coates Holistic Care Centre
We are delighted to announce a new contract award for Caxton Builders, the Denise Coates Holistic Care Centre at Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent. Caxton Builders will work with Integrated Health Projects. We are proud to be playing a part in enhancing patient care and convenience for cancer patients across the region.
Caxton Buildes role
Our team will manage the supply and fix masonry subcontract package, which includes:
- external façade with Ibstock Staffordshire Slate Blue Smooth facing brickwork
- and associated ancillary works.
Project timeline
Starting in July 2024, the project is set to complete within an eight-week period. This contract is valued at £120,000.
Improving patient experience
This project is part of a £4 million enhancement plan at the Royal Stoke University Hospital. The initiative, largely funded by the Denise Coates Foundation, aims to significantly improve the surroundings and facilities for cancer patients, ensuring a more comfortable and convenient environment.
Centre upgrades
The new improvements will introduce a refreshed reception area, an outpatients pharmacy and a refreshments section. Additionally, the upgrade will include:
- a new entrance
- a pharmacy
- a multi-purpose group room
- two private rooms
- an information centre
- and a refreshment and waiting area.
Lisa Thomson from UHNM Charity said, “Currently patients and relatives visiting the inpatient ward, attending a clinic appointment or receiving chemotherapy treatment have little or no access to refreshment facilities. The nearest refreshments meant a walk uphill outside the building, which for some patients was “extremely challenging”. Having a pharmacy for outpatients in the cancer centre would also mean people would no longer have a significant uphill walk to collect their drugs”.
