Safestand Delivers Training for Caxton Academy Bricklaying Apprentices
Safestand, a valued Caxton Academy sponsor, conducted a demonstration and training session on erecting and dismantling their trestle system for our 1st-year apprentices.
Safestand demonstration
The session, held at Caxton Academy in Aston began with Todd Donovan from Safestand delivering a talk on the safety and importance of the medium-sized trestle system. He followed this with a live demonstration on how to safely and correctly erect and dismantle the system. Apprentices were then paired into teams of two, taking turns to practice the process under the supervision of Todd and Patrick, who provided detailed feedback on their performance.
The apprentices were split into two larger teams for a friendly competition to see which group could safely and correctly erect and dismantle the system in the quickest time. At the end of the session, our bricklaying apprentices received a Supervised Training Certificate from Safestand.

Hands-on training
This hands-on training was invaluable, and the apprentices now have access to a complete trestle system for use in their individual projects requiring low-level scaffolding. Feedback from the apprentices was overwhelmingly positive—they enjoyed the session and appreciated the practical learning experience.
Working at height
Working at height is an essential part of their learning, as falls from height remain the leading cause of fatalities in construction. Although this system used, is relatively low risk and safe to work on, it gives the apprentices the awareness about working off the ground and the challenges it brings with loading out, gaining access and working in a tighter environment, compared to working on the ground.
