Chris Bellamy’s 2024 highlights: A Year to be proud of with the Launch of Caxton Academy

The launch of Caxton Academy
A standout achievement this year has been the launch of Caxton Academy in September. This initiative, led by Ivan Sharpe and Andy Townshend, has been years in the making and is a great success so far.
Our training approach is different from traditional apprenticeships. Instead of a standard day-release programme, Caxton Academy offers intensive training designed to fast-track development. This means young people are:
- Laying bricks and blocks earlier in their training
- Staying engaged and motivated
- Feeling like a valued part of the construction team
- And building self-worth—something that’s invaluable in their personal and professional lives.
Apprentice feedback
During my visit to the Academy in October, I spoke with several apprentices who shared how transformative the experience has been. Kitchener Godsmark, said “Our course tutor, Ivan, has given me a solid understanding of what I need to achieve to become the best bricklayer I can be. He doesn’t just give us the answers—he shows us different techniques and encourages us to think for ourselves, which has really boosted my confidence. I know that being part of Caxton Academy will give me the best possible skills and knowledge to excel in my trade.” Read more from our apprentices.
22% growth in turnover
2024 has been another year of growth for us. We saw a 24% increase in staff numbers, and 22% growth in turnover. This is down to the hard work and dedication of our team.
