Liam Seals
At Caxton Façades, our team’s expertise and dedication set us apart. Today, we’re introducing, a talented Quantity Surveyor, hearing about his role, experiences and vision for the future.
What’s your background in construction?
“I have six years of experience in the construction industry. I started in the main contracting commercial sector, focusing on residential housing developments and renovations. Over the past two years, I’ve transitioned to subcontracting, working on joinery, façades, and builders. My project experience ranges from £400,000 to £12.5 million.
How long have you been with Caxton Façades?
I’ve been with Caxton Façades for two years, after joining the company 3.5 years ago to work on the developments arm of the business.
What does your role involve?
My role involves:
- Value maximisation
- Contract management
- Procurement of materials and subcontract packages
- Cost and value reporting
- On-site valuations
- Final account negotiations
- Programming/planning
It’s a diverse role that requires balancing office and site-based responsibilities.
What projects are you currently working on?
Some of the projects I’m involved with include:
- Bluecoat Academy (recently finished) – a collaboration with Bowmer + Kirkland, the Department for Education, and C+W Architects
- Stubby Lane (managing subcontractor accounts and project finance)
- West Coventry Academy (a collaboration with Bowmer + Kirkland, the Department for Education, and C+W Architects (managing return visit works)
- Holloway Head – Phase 1 completed in December; Phase 2 ongoing
- Alperton Bus Garage (commenced in 2024 and set for completion in 2025)
What do you enjoy most about your role?
The variety! No two days are the same. I split my time between sites – mainly in London and Birmingham – and the office, which keeps things dynamic. Working alongside experienced colleagues, such as our directors Tom Mortlock, Scott Millington and Dan Tutcher, who bring diverse career experiences, has provided me with key insights and invaluable learning opportunities.
How does Caxton Façades ensure client satisfaction?
We deliver projects on time and within budget while maintaining high-quality standards. The Stofix system, in particular, offers significant advantages over traditional brickwork. Its lightweight design reduces foundation costs, speeds up installation, and achieves a superior finish. By demonstrating these benefits early in the project process, we help clients make informed decisions that save time and money.
What’s the culture like at Caxton Façades?
The company retains a family feel, with close collaboration and an open-door policy. Working directly with the directors fosters a strong sense of teamwork and trust.
How does Caxton support training and development?
Caxton supported me with one day per week of academic release, enabling me to attend Nottingham Trent University and achieve a first-class BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management, graduating in 2023. Caxton Façades is fully supporting my studies towards RICS chartership. Chris, our MD (a Quantity Surveyor), acts as my councillor. My end-point assessment is scheduled for April 2025, and the support I’ve received has been fantastic.
What’s next for Caxton Façades?
The future is focused on sustainable growth and strengthening relationships with both new and existing clients. Expanding our expertise to include a wider range of façade systems will allow us to remain versatile and competitive”.
