At Caxton Façades, every member of the team plays a crucial role in delivering excellence to our clients. In this Q&A, we’re introducing Sam Selby, one of our talented Quantity Surveyors, to share insights into his experience, his role, and what makes Caxton Façades a great place to work.

What’s your background in construction?

“I have seven years of experience in the construction industry. During this time, I’ve worked with specialist brickwork and façade contractors and gained significant experience in managing complex projects. I’m also working towards my Level 6 NVQ in Quantity Surveying.

How long have you been with Caxton Façades?

I’ve been with Caxton Façades for two years.

What does your role involve?

My role involves the day-to-day commercial management of live projects. This includes:

  • Agreeing variations
  • Valuing subcontractors’ works
  • Monthly cost reporting

It’s a varied and dynamic role that keeps me engaged across multiple aspects of project management.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

The variety of work between different sites and projects is what I enjoy most. Every day brings new challenges, and I’m fortunate to work with a great team. We have a close-knit, family-like culture where everyone supports each other, making it a fantastic environment to work in.

How does Caxton Façades ensure client satisfaction?

Client satisfaction comes down to maintaining high standards and effective communication. At Caxton Façades, we:

  • Ensure material sign-offs and quality assurance processes are in place
  • Offer cost-effective material options to help clients save money
  • Go above and beyond to ensure projects are completed on time

I work closely with the client’s Quantity Surveyor and Project Manager to ensure their expectations are not only met but exceeded.

What’s the culture like at Caxton Façades?

The culture here is incredibly supportive. Scott and Tom bring a wealth of experience, and learning from them has been invaluable. Many of us have experience working for main contractors, which helps us understand and address the challenges our clients face. This perspective strengthens our approach and builds trust.

How does Caxton support training and development?

Caxton Façades is committed to supporting personal and professional growth. The company provides full support for further education, along with site-specific and health and safety training courses. I’ll soon be starting my Level 6 NVQ in Construction Operations, fully funded by Caxton. Their support makes it possible to achieve qualifications that are equivalent to a degree.

What’s next for Caxton Façades?

I see continued growth for Caxton Façades, with the company attracting new clients and expanding its capabilities. While we currently specialise in aluminium and Stofix systems, I believe our versatility will allow us to take on a wider range of projects. Stofix, in particular, stands out for its easier installation, lighter weight, and time-saving benefits, which makes it a highly efficient choice for clients”.
