We’re thrilled to announce Elizabeth Allingham’s nomination for the prestigious ABC Bricklayer Apprentice of the Year 2025 award. Her dedication, skill and drive have set her apart, and this recognition is well deserved. We celebrate this nomination during National Apprenticeship Week, which runs from Monday 10th to Sunday 16th February 2025. This is a time to showcase the power of apprenticeships and the significant impact they have on the construction industry.

The pathway to construction

It was during the global pandemic that Elizabeth’s journey into construction began. As she worked through her GCSEs remotely, she knew that sitting at a desk all day wasn’t for her. She wanted a role that was hands-on, practical, and a successful, sustainable career. That passion led her to an apprenticeship with Caxton Academy, and she hasn’t looked back since.

Since joining us, Elizabeth has worked on some of Caxton Builders most significant projects, including Glasswater Locks, Phoenix Arts Centre, Huntingdon Street and Fosse Park. She’s gained invaluable on-site experience, working alongside experienced bricklayers and site teams.

But what really makes Elizabeth stand out is her attitude:

  • She takes pride in her work, ensuring every brick is laid with precision.
  • She is always learning, asking questions and refining her technique.
  • She’s a team player, supporting fellow apprentices and sharing knowledge.
  • She’s achieved top marks so far in her course.

Why Apprenticeships Matter

Ivan Sharpe, Caxton Academy Apprenticeship Manager said, “At Caxton Academy, we believe in investing in apprentices because they are the future of our industry. Apprenticeships provide hands-on experience, industry knowledge and a direct path to a successful career. Elizabeth’s journey proves what’s possible when apprentices get the right support. During National Apprenticeship Week, we hope her story encourages more young people to explore the opportunities available in construction”.

Awards Ceremony 28 February

The winner of ABC Bricklayer Apprentice of the Year will be announced on Friday 28th February 2025. Ivan continued, “No matter the result, Elizabeth has already made an impact, and we couldn’t be prouder. We’ll continue to support and develop apprentices like Elizabeth because we know that the future of construction is built on their talent and hard work”.

Good luck, Elizabeth. We’re all rooting for you!
